Cold Beer Ban In Tennessee Out

SB2636 was introduced on Jan. 31 and is sponsored by Sen. Paul Rose (R — District 32) and Rep. Ron Gant (R — District 94)

The proposal to outlaw the retail sale of cold beer in Tennessee is being abandoned after getting a frosty reception from lawmakers and the public. When the Tennessee Journal first reported about the legislation last week, sponsor Ron Gant gave a detailed justification for why the measure was needed to combat drunken driving.

But after a  backlash, the Fayette County Republican took to talk radio to claim he had been a victim of a “slow news day,” and stressed that his bill will no longer include the ban on refrigerated drinks when the full language gets introduced in committee.
