My essay: Are we losing America?
ARCHIVE – This idea in my 2022 cartoon may influence voters in 2024.
CHANGE
“If we do not change, then one day we will wake up and find the America we once knew will be gone.” – Theologian, Francis Schaeffer
If Schaeffer was alive today, he’d say, “See, I told you so.”
The late pastor and author, Adrian Rogers who once said, “This God blessed nation of ours has been taken over by the world, the flesh and the devil. We need a national, moral and spiritual revival and without that there is no hope. Only prayer can hold back the judgment of God.”
Is America under God’s judgment? I personally, think so — God has given us the leaders we deserve. Before Roe v Wade was overturned, I said that God had at least 62 million reasons to judge America. That’s how many babies have been aborted in America since 1973.
It feels like God is shaking the whole world. In 2020, we experienced a pandemic, economic shutdown, riots in the streets and division of every kind. Today, there are wars in Ukraine and Israel and threats of war in Taiwan. Plus, the worldwide rise in anti-Semitism is an end-time sign. So how did we get here?
Judges 2:10 – “When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel.”
America is not Israel. But America was founded on Biblical principles. Our Founding Fathers wrote about the importance of religion and morality. But today, we have a generation of people who do not know the LORD. So it’s really no surprise that more and more of our citizens live like the devil.
On panel thee of the Thomas Jefferson memorial is this quote: “God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.” America has forgotten God and I also tremble when I reflect that God’s “justice cannot sleep forever.”
If America is under God’s judgment, is there any hope? Yes, there is.
Jeremiah 18:8 says, “If that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it.”
A perfect example of judgment being averted is found in Jonah 3:10, “Ninevah fasted and repented and God stayed His judgment.”
Notice it says, “fasted and repented.” Can we get Americans to fast and repent for the sins of our nation? It would take a miracle.
On the other hand Psalm 106:23 says, “Therefore He said that He would destroy them, had not Moses, His chosen one, stood before Him in the breach, to turn away His wrath, lest He destroy them.”
In other words, Christians need to do what Moses did by standing in the breach and fast and pray that God will be merciful to our country. I’m sounding the alarm. Won’t you join me?
