Gary Varvel: Columbia school pictures

School yearbooks are a snapshot of what happened during the year. For many of the colleges like Columbia University, the radical protests are an embarrassment. Roughly 300 demonstrators were arrested at Columbia for barricading themselves inside of a building. And over a thousand arrests nationwide.

The optics are terrible for parents of potential students. I mean, if you had a college-age child, would you spend $60,000 to $90,000 a year to send them to Columbia or one of the other schools that is allowing anti-Israel protests that threaten the safety of Jewish students?

Here’s an idea:

  • The government should track all the activists via their cell phones, like they did January 6ers.
  • Camera surveillance of all cars or buses bringing activists and supplies into the areas, then interrogate the perpetrators.
  • Follow the money: Track all sales receipts of tents, tables and plywood to find who funded the protests, then prosecute them for criminal mischief.
  • Mug shot and fingerprint all activists.
  • Incarcerate the activists as terrorists and add them to the watchlist.
  • Reveal names and photos of Boards of Trustees of these woke universities.
  • Require the activists to clean up their own garbage and pay for all damages.
  • Withhold graduation certificates until protesters have paid their “fair share” of the damages.

Without consequences this will continue to happen.
