Gary Varvel: Review of Biden’s State of the Union

SOTU response

There will be a lot of commentary about Biden’s SOTU in the next few days. But I have a few thoughts you may not see anywhere else.

There’s an old joke that says if you want to make God laugh, tell Him what you are going to do. I thought of that as I watched President Biden yell at America.

‘We’re America! We can do anything.’ Actually we can’t do anything unless God allows it. God is the one who made everything and owns everything and He is the One who gives us the ability to do anything.

Why don’t we give our Creator the glory He deserves? Pride. When we brag about we’ve done, that’s pride.

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” – Proverbs 16:18.

God was only mentioned 3 times last night. Once was when Biden demanded that Congress pass a law giving women the freedom to kill their unborn children. Then he said, “For God’s sake pass the bill.”

The Third Commandment says, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” This is a serious offense to God.

The only other times that I remember Biden mentioning God was after ranting for an hour, lying about his accomplishments and demonizing half of the country, then he concludes with God bless America and God bless our troops.

Question: Why should He? Why should God bless a nation that rejects Him and worships the creation more than the Creator?

Answer: He won’t.

In fact, Romans 1:18-19 says, “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.”

And what is the wrath of God in this case? Abandonment. I believe that God has taken His hand of protection off of America. And He has given us the leaders that we deserve. Last night was a sad example of power-hungry, senseless, prideful politicians. We need some wisdom from our Founders.

America’s third President Thomas Jefferson said, “God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.”

What can we do now? Repent. If we don’t repent we are headed for some dark days. Pray with me for our country before it’s too late.
