Gary Varvel’s Essay: The War Within America – Part 1

THE PARABLE

Preface: This series involves Biblical references about the spiritual world which cannot be understood by unbelievers.

James 4:1 (NLT) says, “What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you?”

This is one of the Bible verses that inspired my son Brett and I to co-write and produce a movie called, “The War Within.” The film depicted a war within a man’s soul personified by his Mind, Emotion, Will, Conscience, Memory and Heart. This battle for control takes place inside of each one of us.

Likewise there is also a War Within America. In my 60-plus years, I’ve never seen our country more divided.

Before the 2022 Mid-term elections President Joe Biden gave a speech in which he said, “I ran for President because I believed we were in a battle for the soul of this nation.” Biden was speaking about a political battle for political power over who will control the U.S. government.

But the more important war within America is a spiritual battle – not a political one. This war for the soul of America has been raging since our founding. But America began losing this war in the early 1960s. I’ll explain this documented fact later in this series.

For now, let’s focus on the spiritual influence that is behind this war.

In Matthew 12, Jesus gave us a parable that illustrates the power of spiritual evil on our generation. He said:

“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” (Matthew 12:43-45)

FIVE PRINCIPLES

  1. Unclean spirits are real and can dwell inside of a man.
  2. In the parable, the unclean spirit leaves but returns to find his “house” (the man), “empty,” “swept” and “put in order.”
  3. Since he was “empty” there was nothing to stop the unclean spirit from returning with “seven other spirits more wicked than himself.”
  4. The last state of that man was worse than the first.
  5. The key: Jesus used the parable to illustrate this “wicked generation.” The demonic influence of an individual, explains what happens to a generation of people who are spiritually “empty.”

In Jonathan Cahn’s book, Return Of The Gods, he makes a compelling case for the same “unclean spirits” described in the Old Testament, returning to corrupt our generation in America and the west. If that is true and I believe it is, then this would explain the insanity that we’re seeing all around us today.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE

Last year, before I read Cahn’s book, I wrote an essay titled, “America’s Real Ruler.”  Here is an excerpt:

In 1 John 5:19 is says, “…The whole world is under the control of the evil one.” Satan is not omnipresent. He can only be in one place at a time. But he rules over a vast network of demons that extends his reach around the world to thwart the plans of God.

In Daniel 10 it says that Daniel fasted, mourned and prayed to God for 21 days and he then an angel appeared to him. The angel tells Daniel that when he first started to pray that the angel came to answer him, “but for 21 days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way.”

Verse 20 says, “Soon I must return to fight against the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia, and after that the spirit prince of the kingdom of Greece will come.” These princes must be demonic.

If there is a “spirit prince of Greece and Persia,” I believe we can assume that there is a spirit prince over America, Britain, Germany, Russian, Iran and many more.

The Bible calls Satan the “Prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:1-2). Satan also has the power of death (Hebrews 12:14). According to 2 Corinthians 4:4, “The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel…”

So how do we win the war within America? Surrender to God. Believe it or not, we are caught in a spiritual battlefield and we must choose a side.

As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

Democrat Congresswoman and Squad Member Pramilla Jayapal has failed her eye exam. She can’t seem to see the brutal torture, rape and murder of Israeli women and children. No, she’s more focused on the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) and demanding that they use a “balanced” response to the Hamas terrorist organization.

As Townhall’s Rebecca Downs writes, the Democrats are in disarray becoming increasingly anti-Israel and pro Hamas.

Americans are giving people, but Bidenomics, which is costing American families an extra $8,000 a year, is making it difficult to financially support charities. This Associated Press story from June of this year says that “total giving fell 3.4% in 2022 to $499.3 billion in current dollars, a drop of 10.5% when adjusted for inflation.” This is only the fourth time in four decades that donations did not increase year over year. Thanks, Joe Biden.
