Highway Robbery

Lysander Spooner once observed that, compared to the government, an armed robber is a gentleman by comparison.

The highwayman takes solely upon himself the responsibility, danger, and crime of his own act. He does not pretend that he has any rightful claim to your money, or that he intends to use it for your own benefit. He does not pretend to be anything but a robber… he does not, in addition to robbing you, attempt to make you either his dupe or his slave.

The local mayor recently announced that the city was going to aid in providing places to live for those unable to provide for themselves by creating a housing commission. For years, the city has focused on bringing jobs to Jackson, but “a shortage of housing is affecting Jackson’s ability for people to relocate here.” There is only a hint as to who will pay for it. That way those responsible can’t lie.

Where do they expect you to think the money to come from, as if by magic?

Of course not.

Whether by the “special assessment” on banks that will get passed on to depositors or by diluting the value of the dollar by printing money, though grants or loans, WE THE PEOPLE pay.

We pay with added crime, poor streets, and increased taxes…. it’s a cycle and we, the people, have fallen for it.
