The Red Flag Down campaign rolls out with a well funded statewide campaign to spread the word that most Tennesseans, polling shows at least 84%, reject the Governor’s Red Flag gun control proposal when they realize that the Governor’s proposals is merely a Democrat supported gun control proposal that purports to predict who might commit a crime in the future and send law enforcement officers to that person’s home to seize any guns that they might have – but the proposal would leave the alleged dangerous or mentally unstable individual in the community with the capacity to obtain any other weapons and do harm.
The Red Flag Down campaign emphasizes that if an individual is a proven, not just suspected, mental health risk to themselves or others that the focus needs to be on getting that person into treatment and removing them, at least until they can be assessed and treated, from the community and placed into a safe treatment facility such as a mental health facility.
Tennesseans must take seriously the real threat that some elected officials, in addition to Bill Lee, are now trying to use the Covenant Murders to advance their own gun control agendas. Some of those legislators, including several Republicans like Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, Rep. Jeremy Faison, Rep. Mark White, Rep. Sam Whitson, and Rep. John Gillespie, are openly the Red Flag proposal and/or supporting other gun control proposals and are being pressured to, as one House Republican leader urges, “do something” in the special session that would enact some form of gun control in Tennessee.
