A Bulls Gap, Tennessee, man has been convicted of multiple charges, including first-degree murder, following a crime spree that authorities said involved the death of a Kingsport man.

Michael Shelton, 44, appeared in Sullivan County Criminal Court on Tuesday in connection with a case that occurred Dec. 7, 2020. Shelton also pleaded guilty to 24 other counts, ranging from especially aggravated kidnapping to vandalism, according to Assistant District Attorney William Harper.

Harper said Shelton received a life sentence in prison.

While several different incidents were reported along Lynn Garden Drive and adjacent streets, one of the earliest crimes in the series occurred in the 100 block of Clark Avenue where a home invasion occurred, the Kingsport Police Department said. During a later occurrence, the suspect, later identified as Shelton, shot and killed Gary D. McMeans, police said.
