Oh, You’re Gonna Love This One…

Yesterday morning, Ken Kurson of the Nevada Globe inked an article about Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein’s effort to get her name on the Nevada ballot in November.

From his report…

“Unsurprisingly, Democrats are not happy at the prospect of facing the popular and principled Jill Stein on their ballot for a third time. … Someone replying to Jill Stein writes, ‘A vote for Jill Stein is a vote for Trump just like 2016. Let that sink in.’ …

(I)t’s clear that the Green Party intends to market itself this year as the one pro-Palestinian option, and that could sway plenty of Democrats who have been frustrated with Biden‘s inability to pressure Israel into ending its war on Hamas.”

Yes, I understand completely why Democrats are in total panic mode over the possibility of Stein being on the general election ballot – especially here in a swing state.

As a third-party candidate, Stein needed to collect at least 10,000 signatures – around 2,500 from each of Nevada’s four congressional districts – to qualify.  And yesterday at 5:00 pm was the deadline to submit them.

Mr. Kurson reported the Stein’s campaign had collected over twice that number.  So she should have been good to go.  Except…

At 2:29 pm yesterday afternoon, I got a call from a longtime friend and political ally back in DC asking for help putting out “a five-alarm fire.”

As it turns out, the Stein campaign showed up at the Clark County election office with their 20,000+ petitions.  However, they had not separated them by congressional district into four separate piles and only had a couple of campaign volunteers to do so.

So I was asked if I could quickly round up some folks to rush over and help make sure the 20,000 petitions were separated by congressional district before the 5 pm deadline.

Just two and a half hours.

Talk about mission impossible, right?

But I live for challenges like this.

So I first asked my wife and son to immediately drive over.  Then got on the phone and started calling others to see if they could get over there…FAST…or knew of anyone else who could.

For confidentiality purposes at this time, I won’t name names. But suffice it to say that over a dozen REPUBLICANS showed up at the election department and pitched in to separate the 20,000+ petitions for Ms. Stein and the Green Party before the 5 pm deadline.

As Jackie Gleason was so fond of saying, “How sweet it is!”

Now, the petitions still have to be reviewed by the Secretary of State and Stein’s candidacy could still be rejected on other grounds.  But NOT because they weren’t separated by congressional district before the deadline – thanks to a handful of GOP volunteers!

Talk about defending democracy.  😊

For the folks who immediately dropped everything late yesterday afternoon – you know who you are – and rushed to the “fire” … THANK YOU!
