Rare eastern spotted skunk found near Chattanooga

He will be tracked upon release as part of a statewide study conducted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

A rare eastern spotted skunk is in the care of the For Fox Sake wildlife rehabilitation facility in Chattanooga after the animal was found in the crawl space of a home in Soddy-Daisy on the border of Cumberland Trail State Park.

Wildlife rehabilitator Juniper Russo said she was initially in a state of disbelief when the homeowner contacted her and described what seemed to be an eastern spotted skunk.

“I do a lot of striped skunks, but I was hoping to get a spotted skunk one day,” Russo said. “He is my first and only spotted skunk and will probably be the only one that I ever have.”
