(Chuck Muth) – Washoe County Democrats are using kids as human shields again.
They’re trying to get super-majorities in both house of the Legislature this November by slamming Gov. Lombardo for vetoing at Dem bill to give “free” school lunches to every student in Nevada, even the students from wealthy families.
They’re latest stunt was to deliver lunch boxes to GOP offices with a letter from the Washoe County school board president Beth Smith inside.
In the letter, Smith writes that “many families are like mine” and that “students in our county will go without free access to nutritious meals at school.”
“Free.”
As if they’re the “miracle of the fives loaves and two fish” rather than taxpayers paying for them.
Why should you and I pick up the tab for Ms. Smith’s kids? Shouldn’t she be spending her time packing her kids’ lunchboxes with PB&J’s instead of stuffing them with political propaganda?
The fact is parents with true financial need can get it by applying for a variety of programs that provide lunches for low-income families. But Smith says “bureaucratic barriers, like paperwork, mean fewer families apply.”
So a family that can’t afford to feed the kids they brought into this world can’t even take the time to fill out an application? And that’s somehow Gov. Lombardo’s fault?
Seriously?
She also wrote that kids who get free lunches are “embarrassed,” so you and I should pay for the lunches of rich kids so the poor kids can “freely eat with dignity.”
Good grief.
She added that if it “means kids who need food get food, then it’s worth it to me” to also give food to kids whose families don’t need the government hand-out.
So generous with OPM (Other People’s Money).
Smith goes on to write that “every reasonable Republican, Democrat and nonpartisan I’ve met agrees that feeding our kids during the school day is common sense.”
True. But most of us agree that it’s a PARENT’S job to feed their own kids if they are financially able, not taxpayers.
Smith concludes by writing that “every child deserves the opportunity to succeed in the classroom.”
But her public schools can’t even teach readin’, writin’, and ‘rithmetic.
Maybe she and her fellow Democrats should focus more on doing the job they actually have instead of forcing taxpayer to cough up money to do the job parents’ have?
This whole idea of giving out “free lunches” comes straight from the “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs” playbook.
Ms. Smith should look that phrase up. It comes from Karl Marx. And such communist ideals are decidedly NOT what she should be teaching our kids in taxpayer-funded government schools.
Perhaps money would be better spent building a woodshed behind the school board’s office. Ms. Smith has certainly earned a visit to it.
Homeschool Lunch
My son, CJ, turned 18 last week. He’s been homeschooled the whole time, and Gia and I paid for all his lunches…just like responsible parents should.
That included a special birthday lunch he and I had yesterday in Cozumel, Mexico, to help him with his international studies.
It also included an important lesson on the responsible consumption of alcohol!
I have to admit, we only got a “C” in that class. But, man, what a fun time with my “boy.”
