Storms Strike California Again

A second atmospheric river made its way through central and southern California, producing heavy rains, hail, strong winds, and tornadoes.

The powerful winter storm is expected to produce up to 10 inches of rain along the central coast and in the Santa Lucia and Santa Ynez mountain ranges before moving south.

Officials in Los Angeles issued a flash flood warning for the nearly 1 million residents in the area. Numerous incidents of flooded roads, downed trees and powerlines, and mudslides were reported. Photos and videos can be seen here.

The last atmospheric river to hit California produced an estimated $11 billion in damages, but officials said the new storm is not quite as severe.
