The heat is on

We warned you yesterday that after losing yesterday’s vote, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) would scramble to push a vote on renewing the warrantless mass surveillance program under FISA through quickly.

Yesterday was a small victory, but the battle is far from over.

The latest reports from insiders are that virtually the same bill that failed yesterday will be brought back today. The only significant change we are aware of right now is that it will reauthorize Section 702 for two years instead of five. It will also be voted on separately from other legislation so Democrats can feel comfortable voting for it.

It will still expand the use of FISA.

And it doesn’t include the necessity of a warrant to spy on an American citizen in the text of the bill. The need for a warrant (which should be covered by the Fourth Amendment), will instead be offered as a separate amendment to the bill.

As Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) wrote earlier this week, “This week, the House will vote to require the Feds to get a warrant to snoop on Americans. Sadly this vote is likely to fail.”

This is why you and I need to keep the pressure on our representatives and tell them to end the warrantless spying of innocent Americans.

Don’t forget – renewal of FISA Section 702 without safeguards for Americans faces BIPARTISAN opposition.

That’s why it’s critical you call your representative again today.

Call (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your U.S. Representative. Tell him or her to OPPOSE renewing FISA Section 702 without the full restoration of Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights.

DEMAND a warrant requirement based on probable cause before the Spy State can search your data!

And House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) is undoubtedly threatening his colleagues for “undermining national security” for confronting the Deep State and their abuses of power.

It’s absolutely critical we keep making our voices heard.

The American people deserve transparency, but the Spy State is more interested in ramming a renewal of unconstitutional mass surveillance through Congress.

The Deep State has broken the trust of the American people for far too long. It’s time to DEMAND their abuses of power be reined in.

And to make things worse, the Spy State apologists in Congress are even including a carve out in the bills they’ve been introducing which put members of Congress in an elite class that gets different treatment than you and me.

Call (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your U.S. Representative. Then, leave a simple message:

This is [your name] from [your city]. I’m calling to tell the Representative to vote NO on any bill that reauthorizes warrantless mass surveillance on American citizens under Section 702 of FISA. The U.S. Constitution demands a warrant based on probable cause of a crime. The government has abused the trust of the American people for too long. If the warrant amendment does not pass, then the Section 702 reauthorization must not pass either.

If you cannot make a phone call, please at least click here to send him or her a postcard.
