U.S. Military Planning Construction of Temporary Port in Gaza

According to Reuters, a senior Biden administration official stated President Joe Biden will announce plans for the U.S. military to build a temporary port in Gaza for the delivery of humanitarian aid. An Israeli official who spoke with Reuters stated Israel “fully supports the deployment of a temporary dock.”

More than 300,000 Palestinians are on the brink of starvation, and while the United States continues to airdrop meals, the needs of the population in Gaza are not being met. The planned deep-water port would allow cargo ships to deliver humanitarian supplies to Gaza after screening by Israel.

An American official told Reuters, “We’re not waiting for the Israelis.” According to the UN, “More than half the requests by @UN to bring food, clean water & medical aid to the north have been rejected by Israeli authorities”
