The White House ordered all federal agencies to name “Chief Artificial Intelligence Officers” to oversee the government’s use and oversight of AI.

The directive also calls for agencies to set up governance boards to establish rules for the government’s use of AI and to implement what the White House calls “concrete safeguards” to ensure safety.

As an example, the White House said new safeguards will ensure that air travelers can opt out of TSA facial recognition use at airport security checkpoints without a delay in screening.
