Gary Varvel: Iran, Biden’s travel agency and more Bob Knight

ARCHIVES: In 2018, Iran was dealing with protesters in its cities. Despite the lack of news coverage, the resistance against the Islamic leaders has continued. The Iranian people, who are Persian, are fed up with being forced to be Muslim and many are converting to Christianity. This CBN news report from June 2022 reveals that the Christian church in Iran is the fastest growing church in the world. At the 3:16 mark, the reporter says that many Iranians are seeing dreams and visions.

Joel Rosenberg has written, “I find myself insanely jealous by how many Muslims are coming to Christ? They’re seeing dreams and visions. They’re looking at at what’s happening with radical and apocalyptic Islam and they’re thinking, “Well, if that’s Islam, “I’m not sure I want to be part of that.” …they’re studying the Quran, they’re studying the New Testament, they’re comparing and they’re coming to Christ.”

Could this be a fulfillment of Acts 2:17 and Joel 2:28? “‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.”

We only get the mainstream media version of what is happening in the Middle East and we can lose sight of the fact that although Ayatollah Khamenei sees Israel and the U.S. as an enemy, a large number of Iranian people don’t feel that way. God is doing something interesting in our day.

ARCHIVES: The Joe Biden travel agency has allowed 6 million people to enter our country illegally. And about 1.7 million are known as gotaways. We don’t know where they are. This information was revealed during a Senate committee hearing on Tuesday as Sen. Ron Johnson grilled Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who by the way, deflected responsibility by blaming the “broken immigration system.” Code words for pay no attention to my incompetence.

Personal note: In 1999, my sons, Brett and Drew (on right) got their picture taken with Bob Knight. Thirteen-year-old Brett had just spent the week at Knight’s Basketball Camp.

ARCHIVE: Although I was a big IU fan and liked coach Knight, by the mid-’90s I recognized Knight’s temper was potentially damaging. So I drew him seeing a reflection of former Ohio State Football coach Woody Hayes who was fired for punching an opposing player in the 1978 Gator Bowl game. This cartoon was this first time I was reprinted in Sports Illustrated.
