Planet Fitness has lost $400 million in market value after one of its Alaska gyms canceled the membership of a woman who took a picture of a man shaving in the women’s locker room.
The company said it canceled the membership because photography is prohibited in the locker rooms. But the woman said she took the picture because the man was shaving, clad in a towel, while a little girl sat in the corner. Her Facebook post can be seen at the bottom of this article.
After the story went viral, a consumer backlash began, with some calling for Planet Fitness to get “the Bud Lite treatment.” The stock so far has fallen from a high earlier this month of $67 to its current $53.50.
